Holistic Therapies
HypnoBirthing® is a complete birth education programme, that teaches simple but specific self hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques for a better birth. HypnoBirthing® is much more than just self hypnosis or hypnotherapy for childbirth.
With HypnoBirthing®, you'll discover that severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labour. You'll learn how to release the fears and anxieties you may currently have about giving birth, and how to overcome previous traumatic births.
HypnoBirthing® lets you discover and experience the joy and magic of birth - rather than the horrific ordeal everyone else seems hell-bent on telling you about Most importantly, you'll learn how to put yourself back in control of your birth - rather than blindly turning your birthing experience over to your doctor or midwife.
HypnoBirthing® doesn't mean you'll be in a trance or a sleep. Rather, you'll be able to chat, and be and in good spirits - totally relaxed, but fully in control. You'll always be aware of what is happening to you, and around you.
HypnoBirthing® doesn't require any particular belief system, or prior experience. Some of our mums (and especially their husbands!) have been very sceptical at first - until they experience it for themselves. In fact, the more sceptical they are to start with, the more evangelical they are when they discover the power of HypnoBirthing®. Just imagine welcoming each surge! Feeling peaceful... relaxing... and even smiling as your baby comes closer to you!
In short, HypnoBirthing® allows you to experience birth in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear and tension that prevents the birthing muscles of your body from functioning as Nature intended them to.
It is a common belief that babies and children should have no structural stresses or strains in their bodies, because they are 'so young'. The reality is very different. Birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives. The baby is subjected to enormous forces, as the uterus pushes to expel the baby against the natural resistance of the birth canal. The baby has to turn and twist as it squeezes through the bony pelvis, on its short but highly stimulating and potentially stressful journey.
The baby's head has the remarkable ability to absorb these stresses in a normal delivery. In order to reduce the size of the head, the soft bones overlap, bend and warp as the baby descends. The baby's chin is normally well tucked down towards its chest to reduce the presenting diameter of the head.
Many babies are born with odd shaped heads as a result. In the first few days, the head can usually be seen to gradually lose the extreme moulded shape, as the baby suckles, cries and yawns. However, this unmoulding process is often incomplete, especially if the birth has been difficult. As a result, the baby may have to live with some very uncomfortable stresses within its head and body.
What problems can cranial osteopathy help with in babies?
Some babies cope extremely well with even quite severe retained moulding and compression, and are contented and happy. For others it is a different story, and they can display a variety of problems. Cranial osteopathy may help with:
- Crying, screaming, irritability
The baby may be uncomfortable, with a constant feeling of pressure in the head. This may be made worse by the extra pressure on the head when lying down.
- Feeding difficulties
The baby takes a long time to feed and one feed merges into the next. They may be a 'windy' feeder. Feeding is difficult and tiring due to mechanical stresses through the head, face and throat. The nerves to the tongue and face muscles may be irritated as they exit from the skull, which makes sucking difficult.
- Sickness, colic and wind
Regurgitation of milk between feeds, bouts of prolonged crying due to colic and wind. Often worse in the evening. The nerve to the stomach may be irritated as it exits from the base of the skull, which can impair digestion. The diaphragm between the chest and the abdomen may be stressed or distorted, which further compromises both digestion and the ability of the stomach to retain its contents. Stress from a difficult or fast birth can leave the digestive system in tension trapping wind. Any strain through the umbilical cord, for instance if it was around the baby's neck, can add to strains in the abdomen.
- Sleep disturbances
The baby sleeps for only short periods, and may sleep little in the day (or night!). They wake to the slightest noise- "jumpy". The tension on the bony and membranous casing of the skull keeps the baby's nervous system in a persistently alert state.
With Sharron Barton BSc (Hons) Ost (Registered Osteopath)
Osteopathy is a safe and natural approach to healthcare. Patients of all ages can benefit, ranging from new born babies to the elderly. Britain's osteopaths see over 6 million patients a year and have always had an excellent reputation for the treatment of musculo-skeletal problems.
However, because of the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system, spinal problems can be involved in many health disorders, and so Osteopathy can be a viable treatment option for a wide range of other conditions, such as asthma, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and migraine.
The average person takes between 8,000 - 10,000 steps every day, the equivalent of several miles! To make sure your feet feel as good when you are 80 as they do today, take care of them regularly - as you do your teeth.
We have invested in the very latest equipment and software that can analyse your gait (walking pattern). Prescription orthotics (biomechanical medical appliances) can make corrections that will save you from pains.
This technology is especially helpful if you suffer from:
- Localised Foot Pain
- Bunions, Hammer Toes
- Arch / Heel Pain
- Leg / Knee Pain
- Hip or Back Pain
- Even Neck Pain
If you think you may benefit from a computerised Gait Scan Analysis.

With 'Chloe Isaacs' GBT Qual. Swedish and Hot Stones Massage
Hot stone massage therapy combines the benefits of hydrotherapy (water therapy) and thermotherapy (heat therapy) with massage techniques, to create a deeply relaxing and healing treatment. Basalt is usually the stone of choice because it absorbs and retains heat better than other stone. The flat, river stones are warmed in water, in a special heater, to between 125 and 135 degrees. Some of the stones are then place on strategic places on your body, such as your spine, thighs, and between your toes, while others are used for deep tissue massage. The benefits of LaStone massage include: improved circulation, improved blood flow to tissues, improved elimination of toxins and waste products.

The Benefits of Reflexology:
Easing Pain
Reflexology can act as a form of pain control. There are two ways that reflexology can do this. Firstly by encouraging the body to produce endorphins, which are the body's own natural painkiller. By stimulating the pituitary gland reflex during the reflexology treatment it increases the amount of endorphins released into the body. Also by interrupting the pain cycle through the application of pressure to the feet.
Terminal Illnesses
Reflexology is not capable of removing the cause of the disease; it can help reduce the pain and discomfort, helping to make the patient more comfortable. The treatment can assist in helping the patient's general condition by stimulating the excretory system, respiratory system and working on muscle spasms and tension and revitalising energy throughout the body.
Preventive Treatment
Like most people we wait until a condition has developed before we go to get treatment or seek help. Naturally if would be more sensible to take action early when the warning signals start. By calming the mind and body and taking time to relax, and finding the time for an occasional visit to the reflexologist can prove to be of great benefit. Some people even use a preventive therapy to prevent a condition re-emerging, to maintain a balanced state and symptoms reoccurring. The lymphatic system is stimulated through reflexology, thus helping to reduce the risk of infection. By cleansing the body of toxins and impurities, and by stimulating the production of endorphins, it improves the immune system and providing a sense of well being.
Reflexology and Stress
When our defences are down and we become stressed through the application of reflexology to the hands and feet. It is the hands and feet that set the tension level for the rest of the body and this can be easily interrupted through these techniques generating deep relaxation, allowing healing energy to flow and resetting the body's homeostasis.
Many disorders are stressed related and increasing numbers of people are suffering from stressed related conditions. The severity of these conditions and the effect of stress vary with each individual. Some of the most common affects of stress include hypertension, ulcers, indigestion, constipation, IBS, headaches or migraines, palpitations, panic attacks and depression with some of the more severe effects being heart attack and coronary thrombosis.
Stress causes tension and therefore causes muscles to tighten up, thus effecting the nervous systems, which causes the pain. Blood vessels then constrict so the blood cannot flow so freely round the body carrying the oxygen and nutrients.
The effects of the reflexology treatment induces the relaxation of muscles, relaxing physical tension so the nervous system can function normally, thus benefiting the other systems in the body.

Hypnotherapy is carried out whilst under hypnosis. Hypnosis is a heightened state of awareness during which the subconscious is more suited to accept positive and effective suggestions. Have you ever driven from one place to another and had no memory of the journey? The mind has a tremendous ability to slip into auto-pilot when it is relaxed. In this relaxed state the mind is susceptible to suggestion. This is where hypnotherapy comes in! The power of the mind is a wonderful thing
